World Cup Withdrawal Syndrome….

So I am suffering from what is commonly known as World Cup withdrawal syndrome. I know there are many more of you out there like me who just don’t know what to do with ourselves! I asked the listeners on the radio this week if they had any cures and here’s what they offered.

“Go to the cinema and watch Mama Mia 2”

“Watch all the games on catch up”

“Walsall v Aston Villa friendly match”

“Get another hobby”

Not sure if they’re very helpful to be honest so I’m counting down to the start of the the Premier League, 20 sleeps to go!

Keeping on the football theme and as the Father of two football mad Sons I was alerted to price of Man Utd’s new soccer kit. If you want to buy the whole kit it will set you back a cool £182.85! That’s without having the name of your favourite player on the back. Now I know my boys aren’t Man Utd fans but you can be sure Arsenals won’t be cheaper. My youngest asked me if he could have an Arsenal shirt with either Aubameyang the striker or Leno the goalkeeper and as they charge by letter I’m going for the keeper!                                                                                                           This all might have something to do with the fact that Manchester United have climbed up to second in the rankings of most valuable sports franchises, according to Forbes. The Premier League giants are worth a staggering £3.16billion after recording a 12% growth from last year. Only American football’s Dallas Cowboys are worth more than the Old Trafford club at £3.67bn.                                                         Here is the top ten;

1. Dallas Cowboys, $4.8 billion (NFL)

2. Manchester United, $4.123 billion (football)

3. Real Madrid, $4.09 billion (football)

4. Barcelona, $4.064 billion (football)

5. New York Yankees, $4 billion (baseball)

6. New England Patriots, $3.7 billion (NFL)

7. New York Knicks, $3.6 billion (basketball)

8. Los Angeles Lakers, $3.3 billion (basketball)

8. New York Giants, $3.3 billion (NFL)

10. Golden State Warriors, $3.1 billion (basketball)

10. Washington Redskins, $3.1 billion (NFL)

Desperate to find some sport to watch I found the World Hot Dog eating Championships. Defending champion Joey “Jaws” Chestnut chomped down a record 74 franks and buns in 10 minutes to take home his 11th title at the annual Nathan’s Famous July Fourth hot dog eating contest. The renowned competitive eater from San Jose, California, took home the coveted Mustard Belt and surpassed the previous mark of 72 dogs and buns, which he downed last year at the same contest. In the Ladies Championships, Miki Sudo downed 37 franks to win her fifth straight title in the women’s competition. I’m really scraping the barrel I know.                                        I loved reading this story this week. A New York-Presbyterian Hospital has released a CPR playlist on their website to help people maintain rhythm while performing CPR. In an effort to help train first responders in hands-only CPR, they released a 40-song playlist whose beats per minute match the number of chest compressions. Stayin’ Alive by The Bee Gees, the disco hit made popular by the movie Saturday Night Fever, has a rhythm of 103 beats per minute. This is close to the recommended rate of at least 100 chest compressions per 60 seconds that should be delivered during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Additionally, doctors say, the song is well known enough to be useful in teaching the general public to effectively perform the lifesaving technique.                                                                                                                The Top 5 were as follows;

1. Stayin’ Alive – Bee Gees

2. Cecilia – Simon & Garfunkel

3. Hard To Handle – Black Crows

4. Sweet Home Alabama – Lynyrd Skynyrd

5. Rock Your Body – Justin Timberlake

Obviously there is a serious side to this and if it helps save lives then it’s worth it. Don’t forget it’s not too long to some of the best concerts to come to Mallorca. With 156 sleeps to Christmas John Lewis have teamed up with Quality Street for an ingenious idea. You know when buy a tin like this there’s always some that you don’t like so they are doing a pick and mix of your own tin. You have to choose an minimum of 4 flavours from Fudge, Toffee Penny, Orange Creme, Coconut Eclair, Strawberry Delight, Toffee Finger, The Purple One, Toffee Deluxe, Green Triangle, Honeycomb Crunch, Caramel Swirl, Milk Choc Block. Not quite sure how they’re going to check that you’ve got at least 4 but it’s still a great idea. The tins will cost you £12.00 where a normal mixed tin will only cost £7.50 so it’s a clever marketing ploy. They’ll be available in selected UK stores from late September until December 23rd.

Personally I’m a Heroes Man myself but I may be tempted.

Enjoy Your Weekend!
