Mallorca Summer Music

Last Weekend we took a trip back to the UK. Oh no not another Ryanair rant I hear you say. Well no we flew Easyjet this time with no problems, seats together and we didn’t pay for the privilege! We stayed in a lovey hotel called The Swan in Bedford. It’s run by a former Mallorca resident Malcolm Wyse who used to run Reads in Santa Maria. It’s a beautiful hotel on the banks of the Great Ouse river and I thoroughly recommend it if you’re in the area. We were back to see our families who in truth we don’t see often enough but it was great to catch up with everybody. We also had tickets to see Ed Sheeran at Wembley Stadium. We had tried in vain last year to get tickets to see him in Barcelona or Madrid so when this came up we couldn’t resist it. Luckily enough we had hospitality as part of our ticket so that made it even more special. Now the new Wembley has had a lot of bad press with its transport links and that it’s not like the old one. But I for one can only sing it’s praises. We got in and out on the train without too much hassle and especially on the way out it was very well organised with stewards stopping you at specific intervals to stop too much queuing. I found all the staff very friendly and helpful and I thought the free bar we had would be a bun fight but it was very orderly and you could get a drink whenever you wanted. My only gripe £8.00 for a bowl of nachos??
The concert was amazing. I saw Ed Sheeran at Mallorca Rocks in 2012 in front of around 2,000 people. Here he was 6 years later playing 4 sellout gigs at Wembley Stadium in front of 80,000 each night, an incredible story. You also have to take into account like at Mallorca Rocks it’s just him and his guitar. No band, no dancers, no special effects just him singing solidly for 1 hour and three quarters. He started in the early evening sunset and finished in the dark of night with the whole stadium being lit up by the lights on people’s mobile phones. By all accounts he is one of the most generous and down to earth people you’ll ever meet on the music scene which in an industry full of divas is so refreshing to hear.
So far this year I’ve seen The Stereophonics, Queen and Adam Lambert and Ed Sheeran. Now I’m looking forward to all the concerts coming here in the Summer.
Perhaps the most famous of all family super bands, The Jacksons will celebrate their 50th anniversary on stage at the Port Adriano Music Festival on Thursday August 9th.
Formed by the original members, Jermaine Jackson, Tito Jackson, Jackie Jackson and Marlon Jackson, The Jacksons will present an amazing show that includes all their greatest hits produced with their brother, Michael Jackson.
This concert is a unique opportunity to witness the remaking of one of the best pop and Motown super bands in the history of music.
The Jacksons are members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and their singles and albums have been hits all over the World. Including ” ABC “, ” I Want You Back “,” I’ll Be There “,” Rockin ‘Robin “, ” Can You Feel it”, Blame it on the Boogie” and many more!
On Tuesday the 14th of August also in Port Adriano is your chance to see UB40.
This multiracial group of working-class friends from Birmingham would have never imagined, back in 1978, that they would become the most successful reggae band in the World. Their band name was inspired by the name of the forms for unemployment benefit that its eight members used to fill in every week. UB40 have sold seventy million albums in almost four decades of a music career with around fifty songs on the UK’s greatest hits lists.
Their own versions of “Red Red Wine” and “Can’t help falling from love” are among the most popular songs of the 80s and thanks to them, millions of people around the world have become familiar with Jamaican music.
Ever since the original founding members of UB40 Ali Campbell, Astro and Mickey rejoined three years ago, they have been touring around the world with concerts in North and South America, South Africa, Dubai and the Uk. Expect to hear such classics as “Kingston Town”, “Cherry Oh Baby”, “Rat in my Kitchen”, Higher Ground” and many more!
On Friday 24th August, in the beautiful setting of Son Amar from 7pm, performing on the main terrace outside, will be Radio One Mallorca DJ ‘ s Des Mitchell & Rad Damon followed by former Capital FM DJ and star of ITV’s Fun House Pat Sharp!
Treat yourself at the food court and bars before the main event inside the theatre where Tony Hadley, former lead singer of Spandau Ballet, will be performing from 10pm. He will be singing some of the classic songs from Spandau Including “Gold”, “True”, “Through the Barricades”, “Communication” and some of his own tracks.
In what is a true mixture of music this year you can also see one of the greatest Tenors in the World, José Carreras in Port Adriano on Saturday July 21st. Along with Plácido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti he was part of the Three Tenors Concerts during the 90’s and early 2000’s. Their version of “Nessum Dorma” brings goosebumps every time I see it.
Far removed from Opera you can go to Son Fusteret on Sunday August 19th and see DJ Carl Cox. A musical ambassador since he was in short trousers, a professional DJ since his early teens, a veteran of acid house and a champion of techno – you name it, Carl’s been there and done it, never losing sight of his passion of playing music. He has performed at numerous clubs and events worldwide and has served as a monthly DJ for BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix. He also hosted a residency known as ‘Music is Revolution’ every summer season at the world renowned nightclub, Space Ibiza, from 2001 to 2016.

Apart from these events BH Hotels have a great line-up of some of the World’s top DJ’s too featuring, David Guetta, Tiesto, Martin Garrix and Axwell and Ingrosso.
