We visited friends on the East coast of the island last weekend. Both Sa Coma and Porto Cristo looked busy and it made a nice change to get away from the South of the island. I said I’d give a plug to Kenna’s Irish Bar in Sa Coma who looked after our breakfast needs whilst watching the other team from North London play. Ben from behind the bar said what are you doing here supporting them, you’re Arsenal! I forget sometimes the power of Radio as he listens to the Breakfast show and i think most people know I’m the red side of North London. We also visited a lovely restaurant called Quince in Porto Cristo which was regularly frequented by Caroline Flack during the filming of Love Island. It’s right on the marina which houses Rafa Nadal’s very impressive boat called Beethoven.
“Comedy” duo The Krankies have slammed the Government for “not letting them” take their pension. Currently appearing on BBC One’s Real Marigold Hotel, the pair had hoped to take one while still earning.
Wee Jimmy Krankie said: “What bothers me most is we have a good pension fund and we can’t take it because we are still always working!” This is a complete shock to me as I thought he was only 15!
They are so annoyed about the issue they are now considering retiring for good. Well there’s only one thing to say “Fan dabby dozy!”
Always a pleasure to chat with a music legend. Last Sunday at Pirates I met and chatted to Alan White who was the drummer with Oasis from 1995-2004. I’ve met him a few times before as he has a home here on the island. He was part of arguably their best album “What’s the Story Morning Glory” including “Wonderwall” “Roll With it” and he’s the drummer in the pool on the “Don’t look back in anger” video. Alan’s brother Steve is also a drummer who played with Paul Weller and the Style Council. In fact Steve was the youngest musician to play at Live Aid in 1985 when he was just 20. Back to Alan, in Oasis he was known by the phrase “Alan White – He’s alright”. White was also entrusted with the job of being Liam Gallagher’s ‘official’ drinking partner and was also said to be his best friend in the band. Together the pair were known as ‘Bert and Ernie’, named after the Sesame Street-characters. We had a good catch up and I had to ask whether they would ever get back together. He said he doubted it as while Liam wanted to, Noel just isn’t interested. He did say though that if it did ever happen the brothers individually have said that Alan would be on drums, Paul “Bonehead” Arthur’s on keyboards and guitar and Paul “Guigsy” McGuigan on bass. I for one would buy a ticket.
I have to say the UB40 concert in Port Adriano has to be one of the best concerts I’ve been to. Sometimes you forget how many hits a band like them has had. From “Food for Thought” to “Kingston Town” to “Cherry Oh Baby” and the iconic “Red Red Wine” they didn’t disappoint. It was good to bump into so many familiar faces that you don’t see in the summer as we’re all too busy. I’m lucky that I can walk down to the Port although the walk back up the hill is pretty tough. Personally I now prefer it to Puerto Portals and great to see it going from strength to strength.
Unfortunately the Retro Rewind concert featuring Tony Hadley planned for next Friday has had to be rescheduled into next year but it’s another one to look forward to.
Big day on Sunday if your fans of superstar DJ’s. British born Carl Cox is playing at Son Fusteret in Palma with a massive crowd expected. Likewise Frenchman David Guetta will be playing at BH Mallorca.
Real Mallorca play their first game back in the Spanish second division on Sunday kick-off at 19.00 against Osasuna. Nearly 10,000 season tickets have been sold so well done to the club for getting to that total let’s hope the team get off to a good start too!
