Harry’s Heroes

Two weeks ago I asked should I mention Brexit, and agreed it was a no. But after events this week I’m sorry I’ve got to.

What is obvious now that despite the vote to leave this a Remain Parliament who are trying to do anything to stop Brexit.

Mays Deal: No

So they “take back control” & have 8 different votes on what could be the way forward & nothing gets a majority including No deal & a second referendum! You couldn’t make it up. Then despite losing they try and spin it by saying my alternative plan got more votes than yours. It’s like being back at school.

The song goes clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, here I am still stuck in the EU.

Paper, Scissor, Stone, anyone?

I’ve always liked and admired Harry Redknapp. He’s a football man through and through. In fact the only time I didn’t like him was when he managed the other team from North London. I thought they got rid of him too quick to be honest and if they’d stuck with him he might well have taken them closer to the trophies they crave. As soon as I heard he was going into the jungle I immediately said that he’ll win it. Which he dually did. I read his autobiography on holiday at Christmas and nobody can tell a football story like Harry. One of my favourites was when he was at West Ham playing a pre-season friendly against Oxford City.

He says “The minute the match started, this bloke next to the dug-out started giving me earache. He wasn’t nasty. There was no foul language, but he did look a picture. He had a T-shirt on and shorts and every spare inch of him was covered in West Ham tattoos. He didn’t fancy Lee Chapman, our striker, one bit.

We ain’t got him up front again, have we Harry? Please don’t pick him, he’s a donkey. He’s useless. On it went, he wouldn’t leave me alone. I made two substitutions at half-time and one early in the second half and now we just had the bare XI. With that, we got an injury. I had no other option. I turned round to big mouth.

You’ve got some old bunny, I said. Can you play as good as you talk?

I’m better than Chapman, he said. Right, I said. Get your gear on. He thought I was  joking. What do you mean? he said.  You’re playing for West Ham, I told him.

He came back, kitted up and stood on the touchline. Where do you play? I asked. Up front, he said.

Right, I said, we’ll soon see if you’re better than Chapman. And on he went. Oxford’s announcer came down and wanted to know who the sub was. Didn’t you watch the World Cup? I asked. That’s  Tittishev of Bulgaria. He scored three goals. Oh yes, he said, nodding wisely. I thought it was him.

Anyway, he scored. We couldn’t believe it. He ran round the field like he’d won the World Cup, we were killing ourselves on the touchline.

The lads all signed his shirt and he was in the paper the next day with the biggest grin you’ve seen. And he was right. That night, he was better than bloody Lee Chapman!”

I watched on TV last week Harry’s Heroes which was a programme where Harry took a load of footballers from the 90’s and tried to get them fit again to play a match against the old foe Germany. Some had kept themselves in trim but the majority had let themselves go and some were at risk of a heart attack or stroke. Before I saw this programme I had taken the plunge to get myself fitter but seeing this has made me even more determined to make sure I carry on. It’s a big wake up call for me and I’m lucky enough to have a great trainer in Paul Hamilton, the support of the Shambhala gym and being able to channel what I’m doing into raising money for our Radiothon charities. In case you didn’t catch what we’re doing we would like you to sponsor me for every inch I can lose from my waist. Paul has the starting number since the beginning of February and at the Radiothon we will reveal the starting waist measurement and the finishing one. Please see my contact details below.

Whilst I was reading Harrys book my Wife was reading Michelle Obama’s memoirs. “Becoming” is on track to become the best-selling memoir of all time.

The former First Lady released her book in November 2018 and it shot to the top of bestseller lists immediately, selling 725,000 copies in the U.S. and Canada in its first day. And the sales just continue to soar.

According to her publisher Penguin Random House the book has sold more than 10million copies – including hardcover, audiobooks, and e-books – since its release and could take the record as the best selling memoir in history.

‘I’m not aware, in my personal experience with Penguin Random House, that we ever sold 10 million units of a memoir,’ Markus Dohle, Penguin Random House’s chief executive, said to the Wall Street Journal.

Becoming is a three part personal memoir goes through Michelle’s roots growing up in the South Side of Chicago, life as First Lady in the White House and her role as a mother raising daughters Sasha and Malia.

Great 3-0 home win for Real Mallorca on Monday night versus Real Zaragoza to move into the play-offs. They’re away to Córdoba this Sunday. Even better news for Atlético Baleares who won to go 6 points clear at the top of their league. They play at home this Sunday against Ebro. Last week I was talking about Women’s sport and last weekend Atlético Baleares ladies team got themselves promoted to the Women’s second Division. Mixed results for my two last week, my youngest Jude lost 5-0 in Manacor after a very early start Saturday morning. But my eldest Jake got a 1-3 away win in a relegation battle against Estudiantes. Let’s hope for 2 wins this weekend.

Don’t forget the clocks go forward Saturday night into Sunday morning and it’s Mother’s Day on Sunday so hope you lovely Mums have a great day with your loved ones.

Enjoy your weekend!
