So after last weeks rant about the weather, Summer has decided to arrive. Let’s hope it’s here to stay now.
As a massive Arsenal fan I should really comment on the news that Arsenal Wenger is to leave Arsenal at the end of the season. I have been lucky enough to be around in the most successful times for Arsenal. However over the last few years the club has declined despite winning the FA Cup 3 times in the last 4 years. My sons aged 12 and 8 do not know what it’s like to win the Premiership which would have been unheard of from 1998 to 2004 where they won it 3 times and finished second 5 times. I was lucky enough to be at the last league game of the 2003/4 season where they went unbeaten which is something that may never happen again. I really hope they go on to win the Europa League which will be a fitting send off for him. I found out this week that we will be going to Atlético Madrid for the semi final second leg and my boys can’t contain their excitement. I just hope we don’t get gubbed in the first leg! The question everybody is asking who is going to replace him. For me I would have Allegri from Juventus, Simeone from Atlético Madrid or José Enrique. The early bookies favourite is Patrick Viera which for me despite the sentimentality is not the right choice. This is a key appointment for a board that haven’t replaced the Manager in 22 years. There’s been a lot of rubbish written that Arsenal fans don’t appreciate what Wenger has done for the Club. I’d say at least 90% do but feel he’s stayed too long and should have gone 3 years ago. The other 10% are just the idiots who think by talking on Arsenal fan tv they’re representing the rest of the fans. I hope he gets the send off he deserves and as I said above winning the Europa League would be an amazing way to do it.
Last week I told you about our Radiothon which will happen on Friday May 11th from 8am until Saturday 12th at 11am. The Charities that we will be supporting this year are, Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, Son Espases intensive care unit for children, Asociación Ondine and Feliz Animal Andratx. You can help us raise as much money as possible by sponsoring an hour, challenging us to do something, bidding on our auction, buying raffle tickets, making a donation for a song or just simply making a donation. If you would like to help in any way please send an email to me below or feel fee to call me on (0034) 670 704 311.
Pirates and the Radio at a later date have been supporting GOSH for 14 years now. So far we have raised 743,421.03€ and in that time the money has been put to many different projects including a Pirates treatment room. More recently the money has been spent in four main areas: rebuilding and redevelopment of the Hospital; research (GOSH are currently embarking on a 5-year research strategy to target rare diseases in childhood); latest and replacement medical equipment; parent accommodation and support services for families and patients.
We went on a tour of GOSH in November last year and it’s an amazing hospital that helps treat children around the World not only there but in all the research they do to help cure some of the most complex diseases.

A couple were left piping hot with anger when staff at their local Morrisons refused to sell them meat pies before 9am. Linda Gilkes got to the shop at 8.45am this week to buy eight sausage rolls and two steak bakes.
“There were no pies at all displayed,” Linda, from Middlesbrough. told Gazette Live.
“I could see bags and bags of pies, all wrapped up on cages behind the counter. The trolley was ready to be pushed out.
“But when I asked for the pies, I was told: ‘We can’t sell the pies until 9am’. I could have had a fruit pie, but not a meat pie.”
A queue of five other confused customers formed at the ‘Oven Fresh’ counter in Berwick Hills Morrisons to demand their pastry fix last Wednesday.
But staff were determined to abide pie the rules, telling customers the store had a new ‘no meat pies before 9am’ policy.
“If they hadn’t been cooked, that would make sense,” said grandmother-of-four Linda. “But the fact that they were baked, well – it’s ridiculous.
Husband Tony, who eats fish and chips three days a week(which probably isn’t healthy) and rarely touches pastry, branded the decision “stupid”.
“We have always been able to get the pies before 9am. The decision makes no sense. I can’t see any logic.”
Morrisons told The Gazette there is no “hard and fast policy” and meat pies are simply baked for 9am to match customer demand.
But Tony suggested a more sinister explanation. Sinister? Hang on we’re talking pies here!
“There’s more to this,” he said. “Morrisons have got their own agenda. Really?
“They don’t want people to know about it, They have given too many ridiculous stories about why. They contradicted themselves over and over.” Now I may be wrong but I think these people need to get out more!
Real Mallorca could be Champions this weekend if results go their way. They battled to a 0-0 draw last Sunday away at 3rd placed Elche meaning they remain 6 points clear with 4 games to go. So 2 wins would do it. But should Villareal B and Elche lose this weekend and Mallorca win, they will be Champions. They won’t go up automatically, I explained about the play-offs last week which is a little bit like explaining Einsteins theory of relativity.
Pirates have had a busy start to the summer and next Friday their adults only Reloaded show opens. I’ve seen some of the rehearsals and would thoroughly recommend a visit. You can go online at http://www.piratesreloaded.com or call 971 130411.
